Responsibilities:
We are seeking a dynamic and personable Head of Payroll to lead our client's Payroll Department through its growth phase. This role requires extensive experience in managing a dynamic payroll team within a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills to develop their team and communicate effectively with stakeholders and employees across our diverse business model. Attention to detail, discretion, and confidentiality are crucial for this pivotal role. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of driving automation, enhancing training programmes, and establishing insightful business intelligence in payroll and remuneration, while ensuring their team delivers exceptional support to the organisation.
As Head of Payroll, your broad responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
- Responsible for overseeing and managing the preparation and processing of weekly payroll for over 2,500 employees in ROI, UK, NI and IOM by the Payroll Team.
- Overseeing the preparation and processing of monthly payroll for circa 500 employees in ROI, UK, NI and Gibraltar by the Payroll Team.
- Ensure adherence to quality control procedures for thorough payroll reviews.
- Prepare and distribute weekly and monthly reports to stakeholders, offering insights and commentary on trends and variances.
- Provide regular departmental reports (e.g., holiday balances) to stakeholders.
- Coordinate efforts between Payroll, Human Resources, Finance, and other departments to ensure accurate employee data flow and maintenance, including detailed report preparation and distribution.
- Maintain employee records in the payroll system, ensuring timely and accurate updates and compliance with company policies and local regulations.
- Authorise and submit banking payments for both weekly and monthly payroll, including associated deductions.
- Ensure accurate and timely posting of weekly and monthly nominal journal entries.
- Update mandatory deductions in line with business and regulatory changes.
- Support the Payroll team in resolving employee queries effectively.
- Oversee compliance reporting and timely filing of payroll returns and taxes across all jurisdictions.
- Continuously improve and standardise payroll operations and systems, focusing on data collection, coordination, and automation enhancements.
- Provide business insights across the Payroll Team and deliver training and support on payroll-related matters across the organisation.
Requirements:
- Payroll Qualification in IPASS or equivalent is essential. CIPP (UK) qualification is desirable
- Strong technical payroll knowledge and exposure in high volume payroll. Experience with UK/Gibraltar payroll is advantageous..
- Minimum 5 years experience managing and leading a Payroll Department.
- Extensive skills in the use of MS Office suite.
- Proficiency in MS Office suite and expert-level experience with Megapay.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality, exercise discretion, and demonstrate excellent problem-solving and judgment skills.
- Excellent problem-solving/judgement skills and high level of attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong organisational and leadership abilities with the capacity to work effectively under pressure.
- Previous experience with system implementation and integration is desirable.
